Over the past three years, Kindness Adventures partnered with One Small House, a nonprofit dedicated to building homes and community buildings for the poorest families in Tijuana. Through careful vetting, local labor, and community support, One Small House ensures that each home goes to a family in genuine need.
This project was about more than construction—it was about service, teamwork, perseverance, and the transformative power of giving.
Ten Kindness women helped build two homes for single moms and their families. Each day began with morning yoga to stretch and prepare our bodies for the long hours ahead. From pouring foundations to hauling plywood, plasterboard, 2x4s, and other materials, the work was nonstop and physically demanding.

Guided by three skilled Mexican contractors, the Kindness women measured, cut with skill saws, hammered using nails and nail guns, framed the homes, installed plywood and lofts, added insulation and plasterboard, taped, mudded, sanded—and finally painted every surface, interior and exterior. By the end of each day, the Kindness women were totally exhausted, but energized by the impact they were making.

Between tasks, the Kindness women enjoyed delicious lunches prepared by past homeowners, giving them fuel and reminding them of the community they were helping to build. The moms and children also pitched in whenever they could, making the work feel collaborative and joyful.

After 4½ days of intensive work, the homes were complete. The project concluded with a key ceremony, giving each mom the key to her new home—a life-changing moment full of tears, hugs, and love from and to everyone involved.
Providing a safe, secure home changes lives. The families now have stability, comfort, and hope for the future.
The Kindness women and families alike gained a deep sense of accomplishment, community, and shared purpose. The work reminded everyone that meaningful service requires effort, dedication, and heart.
The homes, relationships, and memories created during this project will continue to resonate, benefiting families and Kindness women for years to come.
We are deeply grateful to the ten Kindness women who traveled, the families who welcomed us, and the local contractors and community members who guided and supported us. Together, we built not just houses, but homes filled with love, laughter, and hope.
