The Kindness:
Did you know that Homelessness in Tijuana is deeply intertwined with migration and the United States-Mexico border? An estimated 1000-3000 individuals live on the streets or in makeshift camps. Many of these individuals and families are involuntary deportees from the U.S. or internally displaced Mexicans fleeing cartel violence. Our goal is to show kindness by providing adequate shelter and housing for a well deserving family.
The Adventure:
Kindness Adventures is working on partnering with a non-profit ONE SMALL HOUSE - building homes for the poorest communities. Kindness Adventures helped build their 98th home in the Tijuana community, are we’re looking forward to making a difference in more lives this year! During this adventure, we will be assisting with the build of ONE SMALL HOUSE!
The Itinerary:

Arrive San Diego Airport by 9:30 or we will arrange a van from LA - drive to Tijuana and start the build that afternoon

7:00 a.m. Rise and shine. Continental breakfast will be provided at the hotel.
7:30 a.m. Vans depart for worksite: 10 minute ride. During the trip, we’ll be constructing one home for a single mom and her family
12 p.m. Lunch on site provided by a local family who has volunteered to cook us delicious healthy local fare. Typically rice, beans and a separate meat dish are provided, along with a dessert. If you have any special dietary needs, make certain to let us know so we can ensure you’re well fed!
5:30 p.m. Clean up work-site and depart back to Rancho Solo.
6:00 p.m. Dinner (Either out at local restaurant/taco stand or catered back at the hotel).
Evening After dinner, we’ll have a little time to wind down, enjoy one another’s company and discuss the successful day. We’ll provide snacks, board games and movies. In addition, we’ll ask for volunteers to assist in our donor appreciation process, which consists of emailing our supporters with updates from the day’s work.

If you must cancel a reservation, we will provide a full refund, less $500, which is non-refundable. We must receive your cancellation in writing at least 60 days before the Kindness Adventure trip's start date. We are sorry, but we cannot refund any payments for cancellations made after 60 days.
We reserve the right to cancel the trip with inadequate participant interest. Kindness Adventures IS NOT responsible for any personal expenses, such as airline tickets, due to changes in schedules or tour cancellations.

Given the mild but varying temperatures. Here are some packing tips to ensure comfort and preparedness:
Layering is Key
Daytime Wear: Since temperatures can range from 63°F to 75°F during the day. Pack WORK CLOTHES - that you don't mind paint or dirt - t-shirts and shorts for when it’s sunny and long-sleeve shirts and pants for insulation day.
Evening Wear: Nights can get cooler, dropping to around 55°F to 65°F), so pack a warm sweater, a fleece, or a light jacket. Layering allows you to adjust your clothing throughout the day as temperatures change.
Footwear
Work Boots with closed toe for the build. Comfortable walking shoes, sandals or trail running shoes for Del Mar.
Accessories
Hat and Sunglasses:
Sunscreen and Lip Balm: SPF 30+ sunscreen is advisable to protect against sunburn, and lip balm will help keep your lips from drying out.
Reusable Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is crucial, especially if you're out in the sun for extended periods.
Miscellaneous
Daypack: A small daypack can be handy for carrying essentials like water and sunscreen. Hand Sanitizer and Tissues: These are practical for situations where water or toilet paper may not be available. Head lamp, work gloves are provided but you may want to bring your own.
Weather Preparedness
While rain is unlikely during your trip, a lightweight waterproof jacket could be helpful in case of unexpected showers.
Health and Safety
Medication: Bring any necessary prescription medication, and consider over-the-counter basics like pain relievers or rehydration tablets.

Safety on the worksite is an important issue. We’ll spend time each morning briefing the teams of what to expect for the day and remind them of proper safety precautions. In addition, each house will be assigned a Safety Coordinator that is in charge of eradicating any precarious items or potential hazards.

We obtain supplemental medical insurance for volunteers during the time we are in Mexico. We suggest you also check with your primary medical insurance carrier, if any, and familiarize yourself with their travel rules and be sure to carry your insurance card

During our builds, volunteers will be broken into teams and given specific tasks. Teams will be broken up based on personal choice and skill. Regardless of experience, this project relies on the participation of all volunteers and even the faint of heart will become hammering experts. The tasks will include wall fabrication, truss fabrication, furniture factory, insulation, electrical wiring, painting, etc.

Managed entirely by volunteers, we strive to provide our families with security, our volunteers with experiences they will cherish forever, and our donors with the assurance that their funds are used wisely.
One Small House identifies if a family is eligible to receive a new home by conducting in-person visits, vetting them through trusted contacts and community leaders, as well as requiring proof of land ownership. This ensures that the homes being built go to those who will benefit most from a safe, secure new home. In addition, One Small House employs local labor to help our volunteer crew and purchases all materials within the community to stimulate the local economy.
